Asian Skincare vs. American

No matter your age, skin care is essential to learn about. People tend to forget that the skin is the body’s largest organ and does so much for our bodies. That said, it should be something that is looked after. Getting into skin care can be intimidating because many products and methods target different focuses. I’ve noticed lately the benefits of both an American and an Asian skin routine and wanted to share what resonates.

Asian Skin Care

A significant difference in both skin practices is that Asian skincare products are made for specific needs. Meaning Asian skincare tends to have many steps, but also this process is designed so that the person can manipulate the products for specific goals. This is great when people want to work on healing scars or suffer from severe dehydration. Asian skincare is excellent for those who understand their skin and know how to look for products that will give them the best benefits. Also, Asian skincare is particular on effective ingredients and does a great job of delivering results.

American Skin Care

This skincare regime is the opposite of Asian skincare where it does its best to reduce the steps while still giving the same results. This routine benefits those still learning their skin types or prefer a quicker skin routine. I started in this skin regime for most of my 20s because I was trying to understand my skin. This skin routine will help people better understand the science behind skincare and learn more about their skin needs. However, once you’ve learned what you can about your skin identity, people tend to venture into Asian skincare because of innovative and targeted products.

What Works Best?

If you are still learning about your skin, stick to an American skin routine with clean products. Introduce yourself to serums and how to combine them with other serums. From there, you will learn your skin type through trial and error. Having a broad routine at first will also help you better understand what specific processes accomplish. It also helps you recognize what you don’t need versus what you do. That said, this is why I advise getting into Asian skincare once you understand your skin care. Based on your understanding of needs, you can effectively target the issues by adding to your routine.

I also believe that once you are at a good place with your skin, it’s good to incorporate a happy balance of both routines. In the sense that simplicity is best, it also needs to be impactful. Once you are just maintaining your skin, you know to pick products to maintain your current skin while making the least effort. Skincare should be motivated by your skin goals and learning to use products that will be effective for you.

Conclusion

Skincare is flexible, and the best way to see results is to know how to leverage products to your needs. A good rule of thumb to keep in mind is that the product that gets absorbed the most is whatever is applied first. Reactivity and skin goals will also affect order application. Otherwise, it’s up to you and what makes you feel best.
